Cheshire Cats

Art Toy / Light Art Sculpture based on the Cheshire Cat.

The face of the Cheshire cat is invisible when the room is light. When it becomes dark, and you turn on the gooseneck led lamp attached above the head of the toy, the face appears as the light shines through dichroic tiles. The colors of the face depend on the angle of the head.

The head of the toy is on a lazy susan and can be spun 360 degrees by hand. As the head spins, the positioning and colors of the eyes, mouth, and teeth all change.

The body of the cat is made up of alternating dichroic stripes. As you move around the cat, the colors shift between blue and pink to yellow and purple.

Created for NYU TISCH ITP Art Toy Design with Ben Light.
