Experiment in Synesthesia for Light As An Art Medium 2019

An immersive installation in which the viewer crawls through a tunnel into a reflective room consisting of series of concentric square mirrors suspended over a large pane of mirror all enclosed inside a structure made of reflective film. Outside the structure, Parcan lights are flashing a red and white pattern controlled by qLight software.

Originally created to induce anxiety in the viewer, we decided to not prime anyone’s experience by telling them what they were supposed to feel. Interestingly, half of the participants enjoyed the experience and found it meditative, some participants were so uncomfortable they could only spend a few seconds inside, others felt uncomfortable but found it to be a useful experience allowing them to confront their feelings while staring into an infinite reflection of their face.
